Clarence Hornsby Endowed Scholarship Fund

The York Technical College is pleased to offer the Clarence Hornsby Endowed Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this program is to assist selected individuals who are pursuing a degree at York Technical College. York Technical College Foundation is the recipient and administer of this professional scholarship fund. The Hornsby family has established this permanently endowed scholarship in the honor of

Mr. Clarence H. Hornsby Jr. to provide scholarships for full or part-time York Technical College students who have the potential to succeed, but lack the financial resources to pay for their education. Mr. Hornsby was a 20 year member and former chairman of the York Technical College Commission and a member and former vice chairman of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education. He served on the task force to organize the Rock Hill Cities in Schools program and is a 1996 recipient of the Paul Harris award of the Rock Hill Rotary Club.

In 1991, he was recognized as the Business Person of the year by the Rock Hill Chamber and is the past president of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI). He retired from Bowater Carolina in 1991 after serving as president and general manager. He is a recognized leader in the community. Mr. Hornsby has been dedicated to education throughout his life. He is committed to providing opportunities to improve the quality of life for all people. This endowment will allow many people to improve their life by attending York Technical College.

Criteria:

  • The scholarship is provided to prospective students or present students who are either full-time or part-time at York Technical College; who have financial need; and show the potential of succeeding in their chosen field of study.
